Employers Guide: Sponsoring skilled personnel for your organisational needs

AusHealth Staffing Solutions (AusHealth) is an Australian based recruitment organisation which specialises in providing recruitment solutions for both employers and candidates by utilising our worldwide network.

AusHealth deals with employers seeking recruitment solutions on a daily basis.  Throughout our communication, we have been able to identify and acknowledge the skill shortage concerns that Australian Employers are facing.

Employers nowadays are finding it increasingly difficult to find suitably skilled staff in certain industries and areas within Australia who are able to meet their organisational requirements.

Another source of concern for employers is employee turnover rates occurring in their organisation.

This why the idea of sponsoring and employing a skilled worker to meet organisational requirements can be such an appealing option.

Utilising your employment options

While the idea of finding a uniquely skilled employee for your company is an extremely desirable one, the common assumption is that the sponsorship process is a daunting one.

With the day to day requirements of immediate business obligations, organisations have directed their focus on achieving these outcomes. However, finding the time to explore lucrative and attractive staffing solutions is seen as a pipe dream.

AusHealth has taken these concerns into consideration and is able to work alongside Employers to achieve a positive outcome for their staffing requirements.

We work with employers to explore options for the workplace and we understand the process can be quite overwhelming and intimidating. Employers generally do not have the time to deal with the research on how to handle the visa and migration processes.

AusHealth is dedicated to helping organisations achieve their staffing solutions so that their business is able to reach its fullest potential. We are committed to helping Australian organisations employ a diverse and dynamic workforce.

Is my business eligible to participate in the sponsorship of a skilled worker?

Employers may have already identified an area of their business that they believe could benefit from the employment of a skilled worker. This is the first step to determine the course of action to take to address their skills shortage.

There are a few determining factors that will give you an indication of your eligibility to participate.

Employers within this program must be approved by the Australian Government as a “Temporary Activities” sponsor. To be eligible to apply for sponsorship, your organisation will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Your organisation must be operating lawfully in Australia or be a government agency or foreign government agency.
  • You need to have an impeccable reputation for conducting business within the bounds of the law. Your application and the persons noted in it and responsible for it must be “fit and proper” persons themselves.
  • You agree to maintain harmony with sponsorship obligations such as the provision of bank statements, profit and loss statements, tax returns of recent year/s, or other documents as requested as part of the process.
  • Provide and support appropriate occupational training – should it be required (this does not need to be accredited training).

What do I have to provide to become a sponsor?

This is the type of document checklist as an employer/sponsor that you will be expected to provide:

  • A copy of your Australian Business Number (ABN) Registration Certificate.
  • Business Name Extracts (If you have various Trading Names etc.)
  • A financial report that includes a profit and loss statement as well as a balance sheet.
  • Business Activity Statements (BAS) over the last four (4) quarters.
  • Organisational chart that shows the hierarchy of reporting and positions that are held.
  • Advertisements or Promotional material for your company.
  • Any evidence of new sales or contracts that your company has won.
  • Business expansion plans that show evidence of proposals for company growth.

On the other hand, employers are expected to provide the following documents for the nomination application:

  • Organisational Chart
  • Standard Employment Contract
  • Letter of support from your company Accountant
  • Meeting the requirements for AMSR (Market Salary Report)
  • Able to pay the SAF levy (Skilling Australians Fund)
  • Meet the LMT (Labour Market Testing) requirement
  • Genuine position report:
    • The occupation required for your business is in line with the ANZSCO description
    • The position fits in with your business requirements
    • Your business is viable to sponsor from overseas
    • You are able to provide independently verifiable evidence – this is documentation that will support your application as to why you are hiring additional staff. For example, copies of new contracts, purchase orders for new equipment, or paperwork or records that support the need for extra recruitment.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can address the skill shortage obstacles within your organisation and become a sponsor hiring skilled overseas workers.

AusHealth can assist you in lodging your application with the help of our affiliated registered migration agent.

As part of the services provided, our migration agent will be able to assess the eligibility of your potential application and provide you with advice regarding your organisation’s chances of success.

After the initial assessment, you will be supported throughout the entire process.  From assembling and organising the relevant documentation to arranging your application, interacting with the Department of Home Affairs and any other relevant third parties as required, before finally lodging the application.

We will assist you throughout each stage of the process for receiving an outcome. You will be notified and assisted as an accredited sponsor of any obligations that will need to be updated in the future.
